Lavender and it’s Amazing Uses!

Lavender essential oil was the first essential oil I fell in love with because it has so many uses! Not only is the aroma one of the most comforting ever because it’s been around since the ancient Egyptians, I would say it has withstood the test of time. Lavender oil is an essential oil derived from the lavender plant. It can be used three ways orally, topically, and aromatically.

When diffused, Lavender Essential Oil’s soothing fragrance can relieve headaches and nausea and it can promote easier breathing by working as a decongestant.

Great calming and relaxing qualities, when taken internally, continue to be Lavender’s most notable attributes. Lavender can be used to help promote relaxation as well as meditation. Add a few drops of Lavender oil to pillows, bedding, or bottoms of feet to relax and prepare for a restful night’s sleep. Lavender is believed to help treat anxiety and depression, and promote a calm environment.

Painful inflammation can be treated with lavender oil. The oil’s pain-relieving and numbing effects help soothe the inflammation, while the beta-caryophyllene in the oil also acts as a natural anti-inflammatory.

Because of its anti-inflammatory abilities Lavender can treat insect bites – as insect bites can cause redness, itching, and pain. They can sometimes become infected. Lavender oil helps relieve insect bites by warding off bacteria and reducing inflammation. It also naturally helps relieve pain.

Lavender oil can be an amazing addition to your skincare routine. It can reduce discoloration, including dark spots because of the anti-inflammatory properties. Lavender oil helps lessen blotchiness and redness. If you have hyperpigmentation on your skin, lavender oil may be able to help with that as well.

Lavender also has antimicrobial properties, noted in this 2014 review. This means it helps prevent bacteria and fungi from growing. When applied to hair or scalp, this may prevent common hair or scalp issues. In particular, it may prevent itchy scalp or dandruff, and even infections. I have loved adding doterra’s lavender essential oil to many of my skincare and beauty products.
